Eastham Country Park

Ferry Road, Eastham

Mature woodland on the edge of the Mersey, with the estuary opening up through the trees. Closest proper woodland walk to the house.

Eastham Country Park sits where the woods meet the Mersey estuary, about a mile and a half from us. The paths run through old woodland and then break out to views across the water — on a clear day you can watch the ships coming up to the docks, and at low tide there are waders and ducks working the mudflats.

It is the walk we use when the weather is bad. The tree cover takes the worst off the rain and wind, and the ground holds up better than the open marsh paths do.

There is a visitor centre with toilets, a car park, picnic areas, and the Mimosa Tea Garden in the warmer months. The park itself is open dawn to dusk all year.

Worth knowing

  • There is a designated dog-free area within the park — check the signage at the entrance before letting a dog off.
  • Parking is charged, and the car park closes at dusk.
